From the recording My Eyes Adored You
"My Eyes Adored You" is a 1974 song written by Bob Crewe and Kenny Nolan. It was originally recorded by The Four Seasons in early 1974. After the Motown label balked at the idea of releasing it, the recording was sold to lead singer Frankie Valli for $4000. After rejections by Capitol and Atlantic Records, Valli succeeded in getting the recording released on Private Stock Records, but the owner/founder of the label wanted only Valli's name on the label. The single was released in the US in November 1974 and topped the Billboard Hot 100 in March 1975. "My Eyes Adored You" also went to number 2 on the Easy Listening chart. Billboard ranked it as the No. 5 song for 1975. I hope you enjoy my interpretation.
My eyes adored youThough I never laid a hand on youMy eyes adored youLike a million miles awayFrom me you couldn't seeHow I adored youSo close, so closeAnd yet so far away
Carried your books from schoolPlaying make-believe you're married to meYou were fifth grade, I was sixthWhen we came to be
Walking home every day over Barnegat Bridge and BayTill we grew into the me and youWho went our separate ways
My eyes adored youThough I never laid a hand on youMy eyes adored youLike a million miles awayFrom me you couldn't seeHow I adored youSo close, so closeAnd yet so far
Headed for city lightsClimbed the ladder upto fortune and fameI worked my fingers to the boneMade myself a name
Funny, I seem to find thatno matter how the years unwindStill I reminisce about the girl I missAnd the love I left behind
My eyes adored youThough I never laid a hand on youMy eyes adored youLike a million miles awayFrom me you couldn't seeHow I adored youSo close, so closeAnd yet so far
All my life I will rememberHow warm and tenderWe were way back thenThough I'm feeling sad regretsI know I won't ever forgetYou, my childhood friend
My eyes adored youThough I never laid a hand on youMy eyes adored youLike a million miles awayFrom me you couldn't seeHow I adored youSo close, so closeAnd yet so far
My eyes adored youThough I never laid a hand on youMy eyes adored youLike a million miles awayFrom me you couldn't seeHow I adored youSo close, so closeAnd yet so far
